Our village has approximately 700 inhabitants – tradition and customs live on with us through generations. Obertilliach has been able to maintain the charm of a typical Tyrolean mountain village until this day. Countless old farmhouses ornate the heritage-listed centre of our lovingly decorated village.
To protect the old timber buildings from the danger of burning, Austria’s only acting nightwatch walks his duty on numerous rounds during the village. The tradition of the nightwatchmen in Obertilliach goes back to the 14th century. Back then, it was the duty of the nightwatch to protect the so called Haufendorf, a village that consists of irregularly sized properties and farmhouses, from devastating fires and pillage. Still today, you will be able to meet the nightwatch on his tour through the village. Listen carefully as he sings his famous nightwatch song during his shift
